In Ukraine, the former head of the SBU in Crimea was detained

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation detained the former head of the SBU department in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Oleg Kulinich, Ukrayinska Pravda reports. and “RBC-Ukraine” with reference to sources in law enforcement agencies.

According to them, Kulinich is suspected of treason (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, it can face up to 15 years in prison).

“Country .ua» published a video of Kulinich's detention on her Telegram. The publication writes that the first deputy chairman of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk, was present.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014. Despite this, there are authorities in Ukraine that are responsible for the peninsula. In particular, the main department of the SBU in Crimea moved to Kherson, where it was located at the time of the start of the Russian military operation on February 24, notes. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on taking the city under control on March 2.

Kulinich has been the head of the SBU department since October 2020. On March 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed him from his post, and Oleksandr Vlasenko was appointed instead of Kulynych.

In the spring of last year, People's Deputy Maxim Buzhansky demanded that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies check the legality of Kulinich's appointment as head of the Crimean SBU. According to the parliamentarian, from 1989 to 1994 Kulinich studied at the Higher School of the KGB of the USSR and the Academy of the FSB of Russia and served in the Russian counterintelligence agencies.
