The Verkhovna Rada dismissed the head of the SBU who was dismissed by Zelensky

Ivan Bakanov

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Ivan Bakanov from the post of head of the SBU.

Earlier, he was temporarily removed from office for the period of verification by the decision of Volodymyr Zelensky under Article 47 of the Disciplinary Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine . It provides for improper performance or non-performance of official duties that caused human casualties, other serious consequences or created a threat to the onset of such consequences. Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova was removed along with him. Zelensky explained this by the fact that in Ukraine, after the outbreak of hostilities, many criminal cases were initiated on treason and collaboration activities of employees of the prosecutor's office, pre-trial investigation bodies and other law enforcement agencies.

Statement of the former head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov, in which he comments on his resignation, appeared in the department’s Telegram channel.

“Yes, not everything that was planned was completed. There were also miscalculations, the reasons for which should be analyzed separately. At the same time, remember — it is difficult in a few years to change a system that has been under the influence of a strong and insidious enemy with unlimited resources for decades, — it says.

Bakanov credits himself with the detention of Vladimir Putin's godfather, people's deputy and billionaire Viktor Medvedchuk, “large-scale and massive exposures of enemy agents in various government bodies.” and the fact that he “systemically took up pro-Russian parties and began to counteract enemy propaganda.”
