Statements by former US national security adviser John Bolton about Washington's involvement in coup d'état abroad require analysis, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sputnik radio.
“I don’t recall that a person who held such high positions and was directly responsible for US foreign policy would say in plain text that he was planning coup d’état in other countries. Once again— not supporting, as they used to say, “democratic forces”, not promoting the development of democracy, pluralism, and so on, — noted the diplomat.
She stated that the authorities should study Bolton's words and respond appropriately, as Russia needs to understand “in which other parts of the globe the United States planned a coup d'état.”
Bolton admitted that he was involved in planning coups d'état abroad on the evening of July 12 on CNN. He said that former US President Donald Trump is not competent enough to carry out a “well-planned coup d'état.” “[I declare] as a person who helped plan coup d’état— not here, but in other countries,— it takes a lot of work. And that's not what he [Trump] did,” — Bolton said.
